The Cup's Story
From Kenya's soil to your hands
Beginning in the heart of Kenya
Soil is carefully extracted from deep within the fertile soils of Kenya. From this soil comes the fine clay that forms the soul of each of our cups.
Shaped in loving hands
Our potter “Zed” and our potter “Doreen” love their jobs. Their skilled hands help the clay take shape - first a lump, then an elegant cup with a handle. Before it is processed further, the Thamani stamp is pressed onto the bottom of the cup.
A shiny coating
While the cup is resting, it is hand-coated with a thin glaze that provides more stability and shine, but still allows the clay structure of the cup to shine through. It dries under the warm Kenyan sun.
Resistance through heat
The cup is fired in a special pottery kiln for several days, day and night, under high heat until it is solid and durable.
Transport and preparation of the painting workshops
Fresh from the oven, the cup begins its journey to the Kenyan schools with disadvantaged children, where it is cleaned and prepared for painting.
Through creativity to a valuable unique piece
The little painting talents paint the cup with our high-quality ceramic paints in creative workshops. Each cup now tells an individual story and gives new joy, connection and hope.
The last stage
Finally, the cup begins its long journey to Germany, where it is lovingly packaged individually with the child's photo and letter.
